Behind the Scenes

Hello, we're Steve and Diana Kimpton - owners and creators of The Word Pool.

Diana is a children's author with more than 25 books published so far, including her successful Pony-Mad Princess series. Her background triggered our enthusiasm for the children's book world which we've found to be full of delightful real life people as well as imaginary dragons, schoolboy wizards and talking teddy bears.

Steve is the technical half of the partnership. His many years experience in the computer industry have given him a confidence and expertise which is invaluable in tackling web based projects. He's also particularly good at explaining technical stuff in words even the most computer illiterate can understand.

Together we make a good team whose different skills combine well in our business as well as in our marriage. We enjoy what we are doing and love doing it together. We hope you get as much pleasure out of visiting our sites as we do from building them.

Although we do most of the work on the site ourselves, we are extremely grateful for the enthusiastic help we receive from our band of volunteer reviewers, especially Eve Jackson who helps us with the poetry reviews (our weak spot) and Jill Bennett who specialises in picture books .

Many people ask how we make money from this site and the answer is very slowly. We never charge to have a book reviewed and we don't want to clutter the pages with banner ads. As a result, our main source of income from this site is our commission from Amazon.co.uk on any book bought by someone who's entered their site via one of our links. So here's a big THANK YOU to everyone who does but please don't feel obliged to do so if you don't want to.
