Wanda’s First Day

Wanda’s first day at school is something of a surprise: she is a little witch and all the other pupils at the school are fairies – there must be a mistake she decides. Her teacher reassures her that it’s just first day nerves so Wanda does her best to fit in. Even though her pet (frog) isn’t really welcome, her sandwiches are rather too scary and her horticultural efforts somewhat overwhelming, Miss Dewdrop insists Wanda that she’s in the right place. So, that night Wanda plans a special gift to take for her new teacher in the morning.
Certainly not a ‘first experiences’ starting school story but a fun one to share with slightly older children who are moving to a new school. The illustrations are full of amusing details that extend the fun of the text.
